Why Details Matter in High-End Hospitality Marketing Campaigns

If you’re creating an out-of-home (OOH) campaign, it’s important to consider the details of placement, and not just for the obvious reasons of ensuring that enough of your desired demographic sees your ad, but in order to convey the essence of the experience.
Such was the case when we created a robust OOH campaign for Cirque du Soleil JOYÀ. Not only is the show singular in its performance, but the experience is also truly one-of-a-kind, whisking audiences away to a spectacular custom theater at the top of a jungle lagoon so they can watch as the secrets of Mexican history and culture unfold before them. JOYÀ is a dance of movement, mystery, dining, and delight, hidden away in nature, so our campaign had to capture that by enticing onlookers without giving too much away.
The billboards we executed showcased rich, monochromatic vignettes starring the wide breadth of the show’s “cast”, from the fire dancer who greets you outside the theater, to the star contortionist, to the flower-covered hostess who brings you to your seats, to your debonaire bartender. With all these individuals positioned at a dinner table in homage to da Vinci’s Last Supper, the meticulous composition illustrates how every single element of this experience—including the food—is a thoughtful and integral part of the show, as important as the high-flying acrobats most associated with Cirque du Soleil.
But to fully convey the wonderment of the experience, we made sure to select placements that positioned billboards and static outdoor ads against the backdrop of dense jungle greenery. This way, when onlookers passed the ads, they would feel a rush of the magic offered by a show full of marvels immersed in the Mayan jungle.
